Why is my SD card not showing up on my Mac?
Work down the chain: the physical lock switch, the reader or hub, Finder's setting for showing external disks on the desktop, then Disk Utility. If the card appears in Disk Utility but not Finder, it's a mount or format issue, not a hardware one.
Why is my SD card read-only on a Mac?
Usually the physical lock slider on the card's edge — it moves accidentally in bags and pockets. If the slider is up and it's still read-only, the card may be NTFS-formatted (macOS reads but doesn't write NTFS) or failing.
Should I format SD cards in the camera or on the Mac?
In the camera. In-camera formatting lays out the filesystem exactly the way the camera firmware expects, which prevents most write errors and corrupt-card surprises mid-shoot.
