MountDock Privacy Policy
The short version
The app collects no personal data. No telemetry, no analytics, no tracking. Everything MountDock knows about your disks and files stays on your Mac.
Our licensing service stores the minimum needed to run your license: your email address and license key if you buy, and an anonymous device identifier for the free trial and seat limit. That’s the whole list.
What the app does on your Mac
MountDock reads information about the storage volumes attached to your Mac (names, mount points, capacity, activity) in order to display and manage them. All of this is processed entirely on your device. It is never transmitted to Aremesco or anyone else. The app contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs and sends no telemetry or crash reports.
When the app talks to our server — and exactly what it sends
The app communicates with Aremesco’s licensing service (mountdock.com) in only these situations:
1. Starting your free trial (first launch)
To enforce the one-trial-per-device limit, the app registers your trial by sending a single anonymous device identifier: a one-way cryptographic hash (SHA-256) of your Mac’s hardware UUID combined with an app-specific value. The raw hardware UUID never leaves your Mac, and the hash cannot be reversed to identify you or your machine. No name, email, account, or any other information is sent. We store this identifier with the trial’s start and end dates. If the server can’t be reached, the trial runs locally and registration is retried later.
2. Activating and deactivating a license
Activating sends your license key and the same anonymous device identifier so we can enforce the license’s 3-Mac seat limit. Deactivating (freeing a seat) sends the same two values. We keep a log of activation and deactivation events (identifier, action, timestamp) for support and abuse prevention.
3. Checking for updates (if and when enabled)
If automatic update checking ships, the app will contact an update server and send only the app version so the server can answer whether a newer version exists.
What we store when you buy
Purchases are processed by our merchant of record, Paddle. Your payment card details go to Paddle, never to us. Paddle handles payment, tax, and billing under its own privacy policy (paddle.com/privacy).
After a purchase, Paddle notifies our service and we store: your email address, your license key, the signed license token, and Paddle’s transaction identifier. We use these solely to deliver, verify, and support your license (including re-sending a lost key and processing refund-driven revocations). We do not use your email for marketing without your separate consent, and we never sell or share it.
Service providers (sub-processors)
Our website and licensing service run on: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), and Paddle (merchant of record). Data is stored in the United States.
The website
mountdock.com sets no analytics or advertising cookies. Paddle’s checkout, when you open it, operates under Paddle’s own privacy policy. (An authentication cookie exists for Aremesco’s internal admin portal only; it is never set for visitors.)
What we don’t do
- No telemetry, crash reporting, analytics, or usage tracking — in the app or on the site.
- No advertising, ad identifiers, or sale of data.
- No transmission of any information about your disks, volumes, or files off your device.
- No marketing email without separate consent.
Retention and your rights
We keep license records for as long as the license exists (they are the proof of your purchase) and trial records for as long as needed to enforce the one-trial-per-device limit. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data (such as the email on a license) by emailing support@mountdock.com; where the law of your jurisdiction (for example, the GDPR or the CCPA) grants you specific rights, we will honor them. Note that the trial device identifier is not linkable to you by itself, and deleting a license record ends our ability to verify that license.
Changes to this policy
If our data practices change, we will update this policy and the “Last updated” date above before the change takes effect.
